Maurice Phelps left school in the 1950s to work in a brick factory. Coleford Brick and Tile was a specialist handmade brick manufacturer and continues to make bricks by hand today. The work was, and is, highly labour intensive. Here Maurice describes how the bricks were made.

Lydney Tinplate Works was a difficult working environment with considerable risks attached. After the Second World War, due to shortages in labour, women were recruited (and later Italians and Poles). Although conditions were bad, pay was generally good. Here Mike Hinton remembers the work, pay and conditions, and the division of roles at the works.
